What is Menopause?

• Menopause is Absence of menstrual periods for at least 12 months in a client aged >45 years
• Menopause can be described in terms of having 3 stages- perimenopause (started few years before menopause); Menopause (cessation of bleeding for 12 months) and post menopause (the period after menopause till the end of woman’s life)
• Various symptoms occur in perimenopause and menopause.
• Some menopausal symptoms are: -hot flushes, sleep disturbance, anxiety, vaginal dryness, decreased interest in sexual activity, joint pain, wrinkles, headache, irregular period, urinary urgency etc.
